Why does privacy exist?
Why do 10-foot fences exist in neighborhoods?
Why do laptop privacy filters exist?
Why does a privacy setting on an iPhone exist?
All of these inventions were designed to put up literal and physical walls. To protect oneself from the fear that others will have access to what one holds sacred that others should not see.
But why do we need these walls?
FEAR!!!! Fear that someone may look over my fence and see what I am doing or what I have in my backyard. Fear that someone will peek onto my laptop and steal my great idea. Fear that the apps on my iPhone will know too much about me and my contacts.
Is there really a sense of content and relief once you have these privacy inventions in place?
A drone can fly over your property and see you sunbathing. Someone behind you in the plane or coffee shop can still see your laptop screen. Apps that you sign up for have other ways to get your data, even if you set the privacy to no access.
What if we stopped building walls and starting believing the good in people and the world?
In my mind, the NEED for privacy really doesn’t exist anymore if you get rid of your fear….
What are you afraid of?
