Last Thursday I dropped my iPhone.
It didn’t help that it happened the day before Christmas Eve which meant getting it fixed at the Apple Store wasn’t going to happen, easily.
Fast forward to Tuesday of this week, my phone is at the Apple Store right now.
I haven’t been on a phone call in over 5-days.
Q: What am I realizing?
A: I’m addicted to my phone.
My habit of talking to my best friend Eric everyday has been interrupted.
What’s going on with him? I don’t know.
Yes I could do an internet video call but that’s not how we connect.
What is most intriguing to me is how present I am without my phone.
When I am driving, there’s no phone.
When I am walking to the store, there’s no phone.
When I am sleeping, there’s no phone.
Going forward, I am committed to the following.
- No phone in my bedroom
- No phone on any table when there is someone else at the table
- No unrealistic expectation on others failure to respond or responding hours or days later
Just these simple steps will free me from my addiction. Thank you, in advance, to those I fail to answer the phone or return your call. And my blood pressure thanks you too.
